How does SurfProtect ® work ?
No one method of url classification is completely efficient: in order to achieve the best possible results, SurfProtect ® uses a number of different methods to ensure the best possible filtering result.
SurfProtect ® Filtering Techniques
Currently SurfProtect ® uses the following techniques to classify web pages:
- real-time natural language processing techniques
- real-time statistical analysis
- real-time parsing of page data and meta-data (including PICS)
- manual classification/verification
Class based filtering
Once a site has been categorised, this information will be used in order to allow or block it. Unlike some other solutions, SurfProtect ® recognises that some sites are relevant to more than one single category. A nude strip poker site would be listed as both a gambling and sexually explicit site and could be blocked for either those reasons.
With over 50 different categories to choose from, it is then easy to make sure only the right content is allowed in your network.
But we recognise that you may disagree with our classification, that is why SurfProtect ® lets you create your own white and black list of sites, allowing you to take control should you decide to.
URL rewriting
SurfProtect ® also rewrites urls on the wire to make sure that things like Google "SafeSearch" are automatically enabled, making sure that no unsuitable material is returned on search results.
